Getting Started

If your pet has been on a diet of dry kibble and/or processed wet food, it’s important to transition gradually to raw feeding as a complete balanced meal.* Raw food is digested differently from processed food. Transitioning too quickly to raw feeding can cause stomach upset.

Similarly, if your pet is used to dry kibble or canned food, they may be fussy with raw food at first, so gradually introducing raw food will help their taste buds adjust.

Start with 20% Frontier Pets Raw Freeze-Dried food and 80% of your pet’s ‘usual’ food. Feed the 20/80 ratio for 2-4 days; if there are no major concerns, adjust the ratio to 40/60 for the next 2-4 days. Increase Frontier Pets by 20% every 2-4 days until you feed 100% Frontier Pets food as a complete balanced meal.

This guide only follows general Vet advice for transitioning to raw feeding. However, every pet is unique and may transition at a different pace. If you have concerns, it’s best to contact your Vet or Animal Health Specialist. Learn more about how to transition to raw pet food.

*Frontier Pets Freeze-Dried Raw Pet Food can be used as a complete balanced meal for 100% raw feeding, or as a Topper for a raw nutrient boost to their usual meals.

1. Measure the food:

  • Check the "Daily Feeding Guide" on the pouch or use Frontier Pets' online feeding calculator to find the right amount for your pet.
  • Remember, Frontier Pets food is concentrated, so the serving sizes might seem smaller than what you're used to.

2. Add water:

  • Once you have the measured food, add the same amount of warm water. For instance, 1 cup of food gets 1 cup of water (1:1 ratio). Learn More.

3. Rehydrate and serve:

  • Pour the water over the food and let it sit for about 30 seconds. The food will rehydrate and swell up.
  • Once most of the water is absorbed, serve it to your furry friend.

Tips:

  • Switching foods? Introduce and transition Frontier Pets gradually over a week, mixing it with your pet's current food and slowly increasing the Frontier Pets amount each day.
  • Frontier Pets food is great for pets with allergies as it's grain-free.

Reducing your pet's serving size can be a helpful strategy for weight loss, but it's important to consult with your veterinarian first. They can help you determine the best course of action for your pet's individual needs.

Here's why consulting a vet is important:

  • Perform a body condition score (BCS): The vet can use a standardised method to assess your pet's weight based on factors like feeling ribs and waist definition. This method considers both fur and body fat.
  • Discuss your pet's weight history and lifestyle: This helps the vet understand if there's been a recent weight gain or if it's consistent with their breed and age.
  • Rule out underlying medical conditions:  In some cases, weight gain can be a symptom of an underlying health issue.
  • Balanced diet:  Simply reducing portion size might not provide your pet with all the nutrients they need. Vets can recommend a weight management diet formulated for safe and effective weight loss.

While you speak with your vet, you can definitely cut back on treats and table scraps. These can add unnecessary calories to your pet's diet. There are also lower-calorie treat options available that you can discuss with your vet.

This is the main query we get. Yes, our serving sizes are correct. Remember that you are adding back 75% of the product's total weight in the form of water. If you were to take all the water out of a steak, you’d end up with a very small piece of meat. It’s exactly the same principle. Please do not overfeed your dog. Stick to the daily feeding guides. If you are still unsure, contact us, and we’ll talk you through it.

When you add dry food to your pet's food, you don't have to wait for it to soak up all the water.

The freeze-dried food won't absorb all the water, but that's okay. Your pet will enjoy lapping up the water and eating the soft food. If you prefer the water to be completely absorbed, just let it sit for a bit longer.

Frontier Pet food's nutritional content is all in the dry pellet, so you can feed it either wet or dry. It is preferable to add water because the food breaks down and creates a 'gravy', which dogs love. They are more likely to lap up the water, which has its own nutritional benefits. Most Frontier cats really enjoy our food without water, and that's totally okay!

If your dogs, cats or puppies prefer to eat the food dry, that's fine, but make sure there is plenty of water available.

Absolutely. It is advisable to transition to Frontier Pet food gradually over a week. Begin by mixing 20% Frontier Pet food with their usual meal, and then incrementally increase the amount each day until it reaches 100% Frontier Pet food.

Frontier Pets food dog food, puppy food, and cat food is complete and balanced and is formulated to meet and exceed the nutritional levels established by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) and the National Research Council (NRC) UK to be a complete and balanced food for adult dogs, puppies, and adult cats.

Frontier Pets dog food, puppy food, and cat food, is freeze-dried. This is a process that removes all of the water from the raw ingredients, leaving the original calorie and nutritional content completely intact.

The end result is a dry food that can be kept in a warm dry space in your cupboard. And it can be kept there for up to 2 years without any spoilage or need for preservatives.

When you’re ready to feed your dog, you just add warm water to the dry ingredients and it reconstitutes to its original raw form. It’s clever and it’s nutritionally off-the-charts good!

Yes, we do. Once you subscribe to our newsletter for the first time, you will get a 10% off offer.

This will only work with one-time purchase only and does not work with our Auto-delivery (Subscribe % Save).

Water is heavy. When the water is extracted from the product through freeze-drying, all of that weight is extracted with it. And that weight is around 75% of the total.

Adding water back to reconstitute adds the weight back. This does not mean that you are diluting the product – you are reconstituting it back to its original raw form.

A cup of dried Frontier Pets food weighs 60 grams. Adding a cup of water at 250 grams makes a total of 310 grams.

Our freeze-dried raw pet food is specially crafted for your pet's nutritional needs. Since it's raw, it's important to handle it with care.

If your pet is a slow eater and will finish their meal within an hour, you can leave the food out. However, if it takes longer, we recommend storing any leftovers in the fridge or refeeding your pet when they're hungry.

Just like raw meat, our freeze-dried food should be treated as raw. Leaving it out for too long can increase the risk of bacterial growth. For best results, our food should consume immediately after serving.

Refer to storage and handling information here.

Daily Feeding Guide

Welcome to our product feeding guides! These Puppy Daily Feeding Guides are a quick reference for the amount of Frontier Pets Freeze-Dried Raw food to feed your puppy, based on their weight.

It's important to remember that these are guides only. You may find that you require less or more food per day based on your puppy's age, condition and activity levels. As the owner or carer of your beloved pet, you are the best person to judge how much food your puppy should require

Here are some additional points to consider:

The following information is general advice, but as each pet is an individual, seek veterinary advice if you’re not confident or are concerned, particularly if you think your pet might have special dietary needs or has had a reaction to a standard or raw diet before.

Here are some additional points to consider:

  • Transitioning to Raw Food: If your dog is new to raw feeding, remember to transition them onto our Freeze-Dried Raw Dog Food carefully. See our 'How To Transition to Raw Feeding' information here.

Welcome to our product feeding guide for cats and kittens. These Daily Feeding Guides are a quick reference for the amount of Frontier Pets Freeze-Dried Raw food to feed your cat and kitten based on their weight.

While our cat feeding guides and raw cat food recommendations offer a starting point, remember they're just that—a starting point. Factors like your pet's age, overall health, and activity level can influence its daily food needs. As their owner, you're in the best position to observe their appetite and adjust portions accordingly.

Here are some additional points to consider:

  • Transitioning to Raw Food: Remember to transition carefully if your cat is new to raw feeding. See our 'How To Transition to Raw Feeding' information here. Cats can be finicky eaters and may take longer to accept change, so persistence may be needed. Don't be discouraged if your cat doesn't gobble it down straight away. Start by offering a small amount, like a couple of pellets, mixed with their current food. This will also help their tummies adjust. If all goes well, you can slowly increase the amount of raw food every few days. We recommend consulting your veterinarian if your cat has any pre-existing health conditions or if the transition seems difficult.

    Additional Tips:

    • Raw Chicken Necks: Raw chicken necks are a fantastic option for teeth cleaning and enrichment feeding! Kibble (dry food) is not a suitable substitute for dental care.
    • Portion Control:  A good starting point for portion size is around 2% of your cat's body weight per day, but this can vary depending on their age, activity level, and individual needs. Our smallest bags are 300 grams, which is a good size for seeing how your cat goes.

The following information is general advice, but as each pet is an individual, seek veterinary advice if you’re not confident or are concerned, particularly if you think your pet might have special dietary needs or has had a reaction to a standard or raw diet before.

You can get the feeding guide for Frontier Pets Freeze-Dried Raw Food from our website. It provides a starting point based on your dog's, cat's, or puppy's weight, but remember, it's just a guide.

When transitioning your dog to Frontier Pets food from home-cooked or another type of food, it’s important to do it gradually to prevent any gastrointestinal issues. Start by mixing approximately a small percentage of Frontier Pets food with your dog's current food for a few days.

If tolerated well, increase the proportion of Frontier Pets food to Percentage and decrease the current food accordingly until you are feeding exclusively Frontier Pets. Watch your dog during this process and adjust the transitioning speed as necessary. If any issues arise, revert to the previous mix ratio and proceed more slowly. Transitioning carefully ensures that your pet's digestive system adjusts to the new food without causing any discomfort.

Learn more about 'How to Transition to Raw Food' here.

When measuring your pet's food and feeding your pet, it's best to measure the food when it's dry, not when it's wet. Be sure to measure the precise amount in grams or cups before adding water. This helps ensure that your pet gets the perfect amount of food.

You'll find that, even with the full amount, your dog will lose weight to its optimum. The added carbs (and sugars) in most commercial kibbles add weight to your pup.

Frontier Pet food is very low in carbohydrates. Plus, our food is high in protein and the right kind of fats, which are what dogs need to burn for energy. So try them on the recommended serving size first and adjust if needed.

To ensure you are feeding your pet the right amount of food, we recommend using a measuring cup. You can use either a half or full measuring cup, depending on your pet's needs. For instance, if you need to feed your dog 1 cup of food but you only have a 1/2 cup measuring cup, simply add two cups of food using the 1/2 cup measuring cup.

Yes, you can feed Frontier Pets food without adding water. If your pet prefers it dry, just make sure to have plenty of water nearby.

To determine how long a pack of food would last your dog using the Frontier Pets feeding guide, follow these steps:

1. Check the feeding guide: Frontier Pets provides a feeding guide based on your dog's weight. Find the section in the guide that aligns with your dog's weight category.

https://frontierpets.com.au/pages/daily-feeding-guide-for-dogs

2. Daily feeding amount: Look for the recommended daily amount of food (usually measured in grams) that your dog needs. This is often provided as a dry weight before rehydration (for freeze-dried food).

3. Size of the pack: Determine the size of the food pack you have (e.g., 300g, 900g, 2.5kg, or 5kg).

4. Calculate duration: Days the pack will last = Weight of the pack/Daily feeding amount

For example, if your dog requires 60g of food per day and you have a 2.5kg bag of pet food, the food will last for just over 42 days or 21 meals if you were feeding them twice a day.

Our Process

It sounds fancy but freeze-drying has actually been around for a while. Think of your two-minute noodles. Both the noodles and the tiny peas and carrots are freeze-dried. Coffee is freeze-dried. Your camping food is freeze-dried and a lot of the food used in the military and by astronauts is the same.

Simplified, freeze-drying is a process that extracts the water from the food. Given that water is the main ingredient of everything, you end up with a dry product that weights about 4 times less – but with all of the nutritional content of the food completely intact.

Because the freeze-dried food contains no water, the food cannot go off. So you can just keep it in the cupboard. When you’re ready to feed your pet, just add warm water to the dry ingredients and the food will be reconstituted back to its original raw form within 20 seconds. During this time, the aroma of the fresh ingredients will be released.

It’s exactly like feeding raw food, without any of the hassles. And your pet will wait eagerly for their warm, fresh bowl of food – Every. Single. Time.

It’s not a cheap process, freeze-drying. That’s true. But the bottom line is that you’re not buying water when you buy freeze-dried food. And given that food is mainly water you’re taking out a lot of the bulk and weight of the produce by simply extracting it.

It will cost you around $60 to buy a dry kilo of Frontier Pets food. But that one kilo of food will reconstitute to 4 kilos of wet ‘as fed’ product, so it actually costs around $15 a kilo. That’s on par with a premium kibble – and so very much better!

You’re getting a much better product and you’re not paying any more for it.

You’re also doing your bit for the environment, because of the water component isn’t being transported to you.

Freeze-drying extracts the water from the raw product. Reconstituting it simply means adding the water back in.

It’s NOT the same as just adding water to a dry product. If you added water to dry kibble you wouldn’t be reconstituting the kibble, you’d just be making slush.

Frontier Pets food is brought back to its original raw form by adding back the water. It’s ‘reconstituted’ – a bit like cordial.

Rest assured that the salmon used in our products is Wild Caught Australian Salmon, sustainably sourced. We are committed to environmental sustainability and ethical sourcing, and we would never compromise on these values. Our brand's integrity is paramount, and we take pride in providing high-quality, responsibly sourced ingredients.

As humans, we are the world’s largest consumers of factory farmed animals. Our pets are the second largest. Our goal at Frontier Pets is to help end factory farming and we believe that our pets can play a big role in achieving this.

Made from 100% free-range protein and organic produce sourced directly from Aussie farmers practising sustainable agriculture, this pet food is better for your pet and better for the planet.

So not only are you feeding good, you're doing good.

Now that is GOODNESS BEYOND THE BOWL.

Freeze-dried raw dog food typically does not go through a heating process like cooking or baking to kill pathogens. Instead, the freeze-drying process itself helps preserve the food by removing moisture, which inhibits the growth of bacteria and other pathogens.

However, the raw ingredients may undergo other pathogen reduction steps before freeze-drying, such as:

High-Pressure Processing (HPP): This method uses high pressure to kill bacteria, parasites, and viruses without using heat.

UV Light Treatment or Irradiation: These methods can help reduce microbial contamination.

These processes aim to maintain the raw nature of the food while ensuring it is safe for consumption. It's always good to check with specific brands, as their methods might vary.

Our Products

Frontier Pets food has a super long shelf life (2 years)*, so many people think it must be full of preservatives. This is not the case. Frontier Pets food and treats contain no preservatives and don’t need to.

The freeze-drying process extracts all the water from the food, leaving a very low moisture content. Also, the ‘water activity’ level in the food falls below the level where any microorganism can live, so it doesn’t go ‘off’. Once you’ve added the water back in, of course, that changes things. Reconstituted food can be kept in the fridge for three days.

*Frontier Pets Food remains fresh in its original packaging for two years and three months once opened. Check the expiry date at the back of the packaging for more details.

Absolutely! We conduct microbiological tests quarterly on all our products, as well as on each individual ingredient. This ensures that our product is not only nutritionally superior but also extremely safe.

That depends on the type of allergy your pet has. Most allergies are likely to be to grains or the environment.

If it’s environment there’s not a lot you can do (except maybe move), but if it’s a grain allergy then Frontier Pet food is quite okay for your pet as it is gluten-free.

Frontier Pets food has been developed for healthy pets, but pet owners who have pets with digestive or skin issues have noticed a significant improvement in their pets' skin and digestion. You’ll also notice clearer eyes and a glossier coat.

However, for more information on the most suitable food for sensitive and allergic dogs and cats, please consult your veterinarian.

Frontier Pets food boasts an impressive shelf life! Unopened bags stay fresh for up to 2 years thanks to a clever freeze-drying process that removes most of the moisture, creating an inhospitable environment for bacteria growth. This makes it a convenient option for pet owners who want to keep their pets on a raw food diet. Once you open the bag, maintain freshness by keeping it in its original packaging (seal after each use) or transferring the food to an airtight container, where it will last up to 3 months.

Yes, Frontier Pets food is low-carb, made with mostly meat and protein for a natural, grain-free diet.

Frontier Pets food is formulated to be low in carbohydrate for a few reasons:

  • Ancestral Diet:  Dogs and cats evolved from carnivores, and their digestive systems are better suited to processing protein and fat from meat than carbohydrates found in grains.

  • Grain-Free: Frontier Pets avoids grains like corn and wheat, which are complex carbohydrates that can be difficult for some pets to digest and may contribute to allergies.

  • Health Benefits:  A low-carb diet can promote better overall health for pets. Frontier Pets highlights potential benefits like weight management, improved digestion, and reduced risk of diabetes for dogs.

A low-carb diet can be a good option for certain pets, especially those with weight issues, and digestive sensitivities.

No, at Frontier Pets, we guarantee that we do not use chemicals or bleach on any of our ingredients. All of our produce, including chicken, is Free-Range and handled absolutely without the use of any harmful substances. You can trust in our ingredients' percentage-guaranteed purity and safety, ensuring that your pet receives only the best quality food.

Our expert vet, Dr. Kathy Cornack, suggests that the ideal time to switch your puppy from Puppy Food to adult Frontier Pets food depends on their breed size:

- Small breeds (under 25 pounds full-grown): 9-10 months old

- Medium breeds (25-50 pounds full-grown): 12-15 months old

- Large breeds (over 50 pounds full-grown): 14-24 months old

Our puppy food contains green-lipped mussels for extra nutrients to support your growing pup, which is important for puppies to be fed puppy food instead of adult dog food.

Frontier Pet Food is designed to be nutritious and filling, so you won't need to feed your pet as much compared to other brands. This is because the freeze-drying process removes water from the raw ingredients, concentrating the nutrients in each bite.

Here's a handy guide to help you determine the right amount of food for your furry friend:

Bag Sizes:

  • Small Pack Combo: 15 cups
  • Medium Pack Combo: 45 cups
  • Large Pack Combo: 126 cups
  • 300g bag: 5 cups
  • 900g bag: 15 cups
  • 2.5kg bag: 42 cups
  • 2.5kg X 2kg bag: 84 cups

Scooping Tips:

  • 1 scoop cup (60g dry weight): Approximately 20 Frontier Pellets
  • ¾ scoop cup (45g dry weight): Approximately 15 Frontier Pellets
  • ½ scoop cup (30g dry weight): Approximately 10 Frontier Pellets
  • ¼ scoop cup (15g dry weight): Approximately 5 Frontier Pellets

You can grab our reusable measuring scoop here.

Remember, a little goes a long way!

One cup of Frontier food (containing 60 grams of dry food) rehydrated with 250ml of water is actually the equivalent of 310 grams of regular food. This concentrated nutrition means your pet will feel satisfied with a smaller portion size.

Tip: Start with the recommended serving size and adjust based on your pet's individual needs and activity level.

Happy feeding!

Our 300-gram and the small pack combo are perfect for the trial.

With the 300g pack, you can feed your pets around 5 cups to see if they like the product or the flavour. The small pack combo contains 15 cups for them to try all 3 flavours. Hope this helps!

When we freeze-dry the raw food, approximately 75% water is extracted. When you add the water back into the food on feeding, you are adding back the 75% water.

Freeze-dried dog food pellets will soften slightly but retain their soft, crunch texture when water is added. This process makes the food bulkier and more filling, which is particularly important for dogs that do not drink much water on their own. Therefore, 2.5kg of freeze-dried dog food can rehydrate to approximately 10kg.

If you are adding the same amount of water as food. This is how we calculate the water-fed values. You can choose to feed dry or add less or more water, and therefore, the as-fed values would change accordingly.

When cats are fed in the wild, they eat the whole animal, and the carcass is 70% water.

Kibble or dried food does not contain water, and cats are notoriously bad at drinking water. They tend not to get enough water in their diet, which can lead to kidney issues.

One major benefit of Frontier Pet Food is that you can add water to it, making it the perfect meal for your cat.

Our dog and cat food formulas are meticulously crafted by our expert vet, taking into account the biologically appropriate raw diet (BARF) for each animal.

We carefully consider anatomical factors such as gut length and teeth type. Cats, being mostly carnivorous, require a diet with approximately 96% animal protein, while dogs, being omnivorous scavengers, thrive on a diet that consists of 80% animal protein along with fruits and vegetables. Our dog food contains an average of 80% animal protein, tailored to meet the dietary needs of dogs, while our cat food provides the essential 96% animal protein for our feline friends.

For our puppies, we include an additional green-lipped mussel because they require more than adult dogs.

Frontier Pets food might be suitable for dogs with sensitive stomachs, but it's important to note that:

  • Our food focus is on preventing digestive issues, not necessarily treating them.
  • You should consult a veterinarian for any existing digestive problems like IB or IBD.

Here's what Frontier Pets says about our food and digestion:

  • Our food is made with ingredients that might be easier for dogs with sensitive stomachs to digest.
  • We believe our food can contribute to better gut health.

However, diagnosing and treating IBS in dogs requires veterinary expertise. So, while Frontier Pets might be a good option as part of a veterinarian's plan, it shouldn't be the only solution.

Absolutely! The larger size is available for purchase now.

Absolutely! Frontier Pets food is 100% gluten-free.

Dogs cannot digest complex carbohydrates, which are found in corn, wheat, and other cereal products (a key ingredient in most commercial foods). Dogs get their energy from proteins and fats, not from wheat. Even if you supplement your dog's diet with food scraps from your table (and we all do), avoid giving them pasta and rice, as they are not good for them. Rest assured that there is no gluten in our products.

Frontier Pet food has been developed for healthy dogs. However, because it is made using exceptional, biologically appropriate ingredients, it is likely that it will assist in lessening common allergies. If your dog has an allergy, it is likely to be due to grains or the environment. If it is the environment, there is not a lot you can do (except maybe move), but if it is a grain allergy, then Frontier Pet food is great because it's gluten-free.  It's been known to greatly improve health issues like pancreatitis and IBS - so it's pretty impressive really.

Almond meal is added because it is a highly nutritious whole food source of many vitamins and minerals. It is included in very small amounts and has no added salt or chemicals. When included appropriately, an almond meal is not toxic but is actually a healthy food. We have thousands of dogs and more than 8,000+ 5-star reviews who are happily eating our food and enjoying good health, which shows that almond meals are safe and beneficial ingredients.

A few reasons why it might be good to include it in your pet's food:

  • Gluten-free alternative: Almond meal is a popular gluten-free flour option, so it could be used in pet food specifically formulated for dogs with gluten sensitivities.

  • Nutrient boost: Almond meal contains some protein, healthy fats, and fibre, which can be beneficial for a dog's diet.

You can find the nutrition details for each product on the product page, but just to give you an idea, here's the typical composition of our beef, pork, chicken, and lamb and fish dog food, puppy food, and cat food.

Here's a brief overview of the calcium content in various meats. To reach the desired calcium levels, limestone is added to beef and pork but not to chicken, lamb, and fish, as they naturally contain bone.

For Adult Dogs:

- Beef: Calcium at 1.72%, Phosphorus at 0.92%

- Pork: Calcium at 1.98%, Phosphorus at 0.99%

- Chicken: Calcium at 0.84%, Phosphorus at 0.77%

For Puppies:

- Beef: Calcium at 1.36%, Phosphorus at 0.83%

- Pork: Calcium at 1.66%, Phosphorus at 0.97%

- Chicken: Calcium at 1.08%, Phosphorus at 0.85%

For Cats:

The predominant analysis are:
- Calcium between 0.7 and 0.95% (AAFCO is 0.6).
- Phosphorous between 0.7 to 1.02%  (AAFCO is 0.5)
- Taurine between 0.36 and 0.41.  (AAFCO is 0.1)
Our full recipe breakdown and analysis are subject to confidentiality. We do assure you that we meet and exceed profiles. If you have any particular requests based on your pets individual needs, then please contact our office for further information.

If you have received a product with a strange smell or that your pet refuses to eat, it is possible that the food has oxidized. Oxidization can occur in a small percentage of freeze-dried food due to the raw materials used and minimal processing methods. This may result in the fats in the meat degrading, which can create a detectable chemical smell, especially to more smell-sensitive pets. If you suspect the product has oxidized, please check the Best Before Date on the packaging and contact our customer service with that information as well as a description of the issue. We will happily replace the product for you and ship out a new order as soon as possible. Your satisfaction and your pet's happiness are our priorities.

Chicken neck treats are safe for cats to eat, even if there are bones in them. Chicken neck contains raw bone, which is generally a very safe and healthy food for cats who have experienced bone eaters when fed in moderation. One neck per day or less often.

Chicken neck treats are considered safe for cats to eat because the bones in chicken necks are soft and cartilaginous, providing healthy proteins, glucosamine, and calcium. The soft bones in raw chicken necks do not splinter and are easily grindable, posing little to no risk of choking or injury.

However, all owners should tailor the size of their pet's treats to fit their cat's needs, as each pet has unique eating habits and may prefer smaller pieces, especially older cats and dogs whose teeth are not as strong as they were in their youth.

Frontier Pets food for cats is great as part of a kitten's diet; however, it is not suitable as a sole diet. It does need to be supplemented with raw meaty bones like a chicken neck or part of a chicken wing. For a small kitten, try a chicken wing tip. As the kitten grows, they can have larger pieces like a chicken neck or half a wing. Give these every day, in addition to the frontier food. Be mindful that at the same time, you might be transitioning the kitten off their original food. This all needs to be done slowly over 4-6 weeks.

We have recently made some changes to how we prepare our pet food to enhance the overall quality of the product. Previously, our larger pellets made it difficult to see all of the nutritious ingredients and didn't always soak up water effectively. As part of our continuous efforts to improve, we are now gently grinding the ingredients and shaping them into smaller sizes. This new approach allows the goodies, especially the fruit and vegetables, to be more visible. The food now absorbs water within about 10 seconds, and the aroma is much stronger. It's the same great product, just better. In rare cases, larger pieces of fruit and vegetables may cause temporary loose stools in some dogs, but this typically resolves on its own. If your pet experiences minor digestive issues, feeding cooked pumpkin and fresh meat or tuna for a few days can help settle their tummy. However, if you have concerns, it's important to consult with your vet. or reach out to us to consult with our inhouse Holistic Vets.

According to our holistic vet, Dr. Kathy Cornack, yes it is better to feed your pet a variety of foods, including meats and protein sources. This is recommended unless your vet has advised there is a medical reason to do otherwise. There are several reasons why it's better.

Firstly, offering your dog variety in their diet can help prevent boredom. Just like humans, dogs can get tired of eating the same thing day after day. Introducing different flavours and textures can make mealtime more exciting for them.

Additionally, BARF principles emphasize the importance of variety in a dog's diet. This approach suggests that dogs, as natural omnivorous scavengers, benefit from a diet that mimics their ancestral eating habits, which include a diverse range of edibles.

Lastly, following BARF principles, eating variety achieves balance over time. The same principles apply to humans: we should eat as wide a range of foods as possible (i.e. variety within the major food groups) to ensure optimal health.

It is best to introduce a variety of foods early in life to acclimate their taste buds and their digestive systems. As sudden shifts in diet can lead to stomach upset in sensitive individuals, it's important to make changes in diet gradually if you are introducing a new food that your pet is not used to. Always consult with your vet for advice in your specific situation if your pet has digestive or other health issues.

Fantastic news! Our large combo pack is always on sale, and if you were to purchase these items individually, it would cost $551.85. However, when you buy the combo pack, you'll only be paying $519.95, saving you $31.90. Additionally, subscribing to the large combo pack can save you up to $83.89, plus you'll get free shipping.

Yes, you can freeze once hydrated our food. Freezing the food after rehydration is like freezing raw meat and will extend the playtime and can also create a cooling effect, which is especially enjoyable for dogs in warmer weather. The pellets will soften slightly but retain their soft, crunch texture.

Dogs, similar to humans, require carbohydrates for energy. However, for sustained energy, an appropriately balanced combination of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats is ideal; an unbalanced mix may be suboptimal. Fats offer the highest energy per unit. According to BARF principles, the necessary carbohydrates should come from biologically appropriate sources, such as ground vegetables.

This general health advice comes from holistic veterinarian Dr. Kathy Cornack. For any specific health concerns about your pet, please consult your veterinarian. Individual animal needs may vary. This is general advice only.

When feeding your dog Frontier Pets food, you have the option of both wet and dry varieties. Refer to the daily feeding guide for the appropriate amounts for your pet, and follow the provided instructions for feeding.

1. Wet Feeding

Measuring by Cup: Add ¾ cup (~180 mL) of water to 1 cup (~60 grams) of dry food. This will make around 240g of wet food.

Let stand until food soaks up some of the water. It should take less than 1 minute, however reconstitution times can vary.

2. Dry Feeding

Measuring by Cup: Measure the required amount using a metric cup (250ml capacity) and add to the bowl.

Measuring by Grams: Measure the required amount in grams according to the daily feeding guide, and add to the bowl.

Yes, Frontier Pets food exceeds AAFCO standards while remaining well within the safety range for pets, ensuring both high quality and optimal nutrition.

Exceeding AAFCO and NRC standards, our vet-approved pet food is crafted with human-grade, organic ingredients to ensure the highest safety and quality. Our cat food is ideal for picky eaters and made with sustainable practices. For dogs and puppies, we offer similarly high-quality, nutrient-rich options tailored to their specific needs. Our dog and puppy food also exceeds industry standards, providing balanced nutrition with ethically sourced ingredients. Whether for adult cats, dogs, or growing puppies, our products are designed to support optimal health and well-being across all life stages.

Frontier Pets food could be a great choice for your cat because it focuses on high-quality, natural ingredients that align with a raw food diet, which is often recommended for optimal feline health. Their products are typically made with real meat and minimal processing, which helps preserve nutrients and flavour.

Here are a few reasons why Frontier Pets might be appropriate for your cat:

1. High-Quality Protein: Frontier Pets uses high-quality meat as the primary ingredient, which supports your cat's protein needs for muscle development and overall health. Our veterinarian has meticulously crafted a recipe that not only surpasses AAFCO standards but also adheres to the BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) principles. This ensures that the food is ideally suited for carnivorous pets, such as cats, providing them with the most nutritious and species-appropriate diet possible.

2. Natural Ingredients: Our recipes are crafted with a commitment to excluding artificial additives and fillers, ensuring that every ingredient used is wholesome and beneficial. By avoiding gluten and other unnecessary fillers, we offer a more natural and pure diet that is easier on your cat's digestive system. This approach not only supports better overall health but also helps maintain optimal digestive function, providing a diet that aligns more closely with your cat's natural dietary needs.

3. Nutrient-Rich: Our food is thoughtfully formulated to include essential vitamins and minerals that are crucial for maintaining your cat's overall well-being. We use a freeze-drying process to preserve these nutrients at their peak. Freeze-drying involves rapidly freezing the food and then removing moisture through a vacuum process, which helps retain the natural vitamins, minerals, and other beneficial components without the need for preservatives or artificial additives. This method ensures that your cat receives a diet rich in high-quality, bioavailable nutrients that support their health, vitality, and longevity. By maintaining the integrity of the ingredients through freeze-drying, we provide a nutrient-dense food that closely mirrors the natural diet of your feline companion.

4. Raw Diet Benefits: If your cat thrives on a raw food diet, you'll be pleased to know that Frontier Pets' freeze-dried options provide a convenient way to deliver the advantages of raw feeding without the usual hassle of preparation. Our freeze-dried foods retain the nutritional integrity of raw ingredients, offering the same high-quality protein, essential fats, and vital nutrients that are beneficial for your cat's health. The freeze-drying process locks in the natural goodness and flavour of the raw ingredients while eliminating the need for extensive preparation or refrigeration. This method ensures that your cat can enjoy the benefits of a raw diet, such as improved digestion, healthier skin and coat, and increased energy levels, all while saving you time and effort. With Frontier Pets' freeze-dried options, you can easily provide your feline friend with a balanced and nutritious diet that supports their overall well-being.

Overall, Frontier Pets food offers a balanced and nutritious option that can support your cat's health and vitality.

While we can't guarantee that our food will resolve all digestive issues, our Frontier Pets food is made with Free-Range, whole food, gluten-free and GMO-free ingredients and contains no artificial additives or preservatives.

However, it's important to consult with your veterinarian to determine the specific cause of your pet's tummy trouble. Digestive issues can stem from various factors, including food allergies, sensitivities, parasites, or underlying health conditions.

Beef and chicken are the two most common proteins pets can be sensitised to. We suggest that in the short term, you change your protein to pork or the lamb & fish recipe. See how you go and make sure to transition slowly.

A vet can provide a proper diagnosis and recommend the best course of action, which may include dietary changes, medication, or further testing. If your pet is experiencing severe or persistent digestive symptoms, it's crucial to seek professional advice.

If your dog or cat has been diagnosed with diabetes, it is important to follow your veterinarian's advice regarding what food to feed them. It is essential to consult your vet if you're considering a diet change for your diabetic dog or cat as an adjustment in insulin dosage may be required if the diet is changed. Regular meal time and meal portions are essential too.

If your vet has recommended a low-carbohydrate diet, Frontier Pets could be an appropriate option to discuss with them. Frontier Pets food is a low carbohydrate diet with high nutritional value. It has a high protein and high fat content which provide sustained, slow glucose release.

The best-by date or best-before date, which is the recommended date for consuming the food for optimal quality and flavour, is usually found in the top right corner of the packaging. However, it's always a good idea to check the entire package, as sometimes it can be located on the bottom or side.

Frontier Pets food boasts an impressive shelf life! Unopened bags stay fresh for up to 2 years thanks to a clever freeze-drying process that removes most of the moisture, creating an inhospitable environment for bacteria growth. This makes it a convenient option for pet owners to be able to feed raw.

Once you open the bag, maintain freshness by keeping it in its original packaging (seal after each use) where it will last up to 3 months.

You can serve freeze-dried treats to your pet without adding water. Most freeze-dried treats are designed to be enjoyed directly from the package. They are already dehydrated and crunchy, making them a convenient and tasty snack for your pets.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Check the packaging: While most freeze-dried treats can be served as-is, it's always a good idea to check the specific instructions on the packaging. Some might have slightly different recommendations.
  • Monitor your pet: Keep an eye on your pet after giving them freeze-dried treats. If you notice any signs of discomfort or digestive issues, reduce the amount or discontinue use.
  • Consider hydration: While freeze-dried treats can be a great snack, they should not replace regular complete and balanced meals. Ensure your pet has access to plenty of fresh water to stay hydrated.

You do not need to rehydrate freeze-dried treats. Most freeze-dried treats are designed to be enjoyed without rehydration. The crunchy texture adds a fun element for your pet. However, if you prefer, adding a bit of warm water can make them softer and more palatable, especially for picky eaters, senior pets or pets with dental issues.

Nutrition

Many pet owners are interested in understanding the differences between kibble and raw food. While kibble is a convenient option, it often contains processed ingredients like grains and byproducts. Ever wonder what's in your pet's kibble? Check out the video.

At Frontier Pets, we believe in simple, whole-food ingredients. That's why our food features free-range, raw meat and organic produce, carefully chosen to provide complete and balanced nutrition for your dog. This is how Frontier Pets food is made.

Here are some of the benefits of feeding your dog a raw food diet:

  1. Better nutrition: Raw dog food contains all the essential nutrients that dogs need to thrive, including proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals. It is free from fillers, preservatives, and artificial ingredients that are commonly found in commercial dog food.
  2. Improved digestion: Raw dog food is easier for dogs to digest because it is not cooked or processed. The natural enzymes and bacteria in raw food help to break down the ingredients, making it easier for dogs to absorb the nutrients.
  3. Stronger immune system: Raw dog food is rich in antioxidants, which help to boost the immune system and protect against disease and illness. Additionally, raw food contains higher levels of vitamins and minerals that support overall health and wellness.
  4. Better oral health: Chewing on bones and raw meaty bones helps to clean teeth and promote healthy gums. This can lead to fewer dental problems and improved overall oral health.
  5. Increased energy and vitality: Dogs fed a raw food diet often have more energy and vitality than dogs fed commercial dog food. This is because raw food provides a more balanced and nutritious diet that supports overall health and wellness.

It is important to note that a raw food diet should be carefully planned and balanced to ensure that it provides all the nutrients that dogs need to thrive. If you are considering switching to a raw food diet for your dog, we can help you. At Frontier Pets, we’ve done the research with Dr. Kathy Cornack, our resident holistic vet and animal nutritionist.

Our recipes are designed to support a healthy, balanced diet. We use human-quality free-range meat, eggs, and offal, along with certified organic, imperfect fruit and veggies.

It is super important to keep your cat well hydrated, especially as they are prone to UTIs. Their urine should be a nice pale yellow colour. If it is too concentrated, i.e., dark yellow, then they likely have a UTI.

Cats prefer fresh, moving water so consider a cat drinking fountain or leaving your tap running a little longer so they can have a drink!

We highly recommend feeding Frontier Pets cat food with water added for most meals. Always have fresh water available for cats to enjoy during the day.

This general health advice comes from holistic veterinarian Dr. Kathy Cornack. For any specific health concerns about your pet, please consult your veterinarian. Individual animal needs may vary. This is general advice only.

Desexed (neutered) dogs need fewer calories or food than intact dogs. That's because they have fewer sex hormones, which slow their metabolic rate.

This means it's easier for them to gain weight or, conversely, they need less food to maintain an optimal body weight. A similar thing happens to older humans: once the sex hormones start to drop off, it's easier to develop a pot belly or gain weight!

Desexed dogs need around 20% less food than intact dogs.

We do not include salt in any of our pet's food.

But there are likely several ingredients in our food that contain sodium naturally. Here's a breakdown:

  • Free-Range Beef: Meat naturally contains sodium.
  • Free-Range Beef Tripe, Liver, Kidney, Heart & Lung (Offal): Offal is known to have more sodium than muscle meat.
  • Seaweed:  Seaweed is a concentrated source of sodium.
  • Mineral Salts (Calcium & Phosphate):  Some mineral salts can contain sodium depending on the specific compound used.

While the exact amount of sodium is difficult to say without the specific product information, it's likely there is some sodium content from these ingredients.

Ingredients like vegetables, apples, and eggs would have minimal to no sodium.

Our lowest-calorie dog food is free-range chicken raw freeze-dried, which provides 5221 kcals per kilogram of dried food or 313 kcals per 60-gram cup of dry food per day.

The second lowest is our free-range pork raw freeze-dried, which contains 5559 kcals per kilo of dried food and 334 per 60-grams cup of dry food per day.

No, dogs need a balanced diet.

While protein is essential for dogs, it's just one part of the puzzle. A healthy diet requires a mix of nutrients to keep your pet happy and healthy.

Dogs need a combination of:

  • Macronutrients: Protein, fats, carbohydrates, and water are the building blocks of a dog's diet.
  • Micronutrients: Vitamins and minerals are crucial for various bodily functions.

A diet lacking in any of these can lead to health problems. It's important to choose a dog food that provides a complete and balanced nutritional profile. If you're unsure about your dog's diet, consult with a veterinarian.

It is commonly believed that the crunchy texture of dry kibble helps to clean a dog's teeth. However, there is little evidence to suggest this is true. Most softer foods (including kibble, including Frontier Pet's food) can contribute to the development of plaque (the slimy coating you feel on your teeth if you haven’t brushed them), which can lead to dental disease if not removed. Like for humans the type of diet you eat influences your oral health. Our holistic vet considers that feeding biologically appropriate, whole foods naturally low in carbohydrates will be helpful as an aid to prevent dental disease. Regular tooth brushing removes plaque and aids dental hygiene. There are some specially formulated dry dog and cat foods (specific dental foods) that are designed to remove dental plaque. Bones are natural toothbrushes for dogs and cats so regular bone chewing, and other hard chews help to keep teeth clean.

  4. Environmentally Friendly: Frontier Pets focuses on minimising environmental impact by using sustainable farming practices.

  5. Complete and Balanced: The food is formulated to meet the nutritional needs of dogs, ensuring they get all essential nutrients without needing additional supplements.

Frontier Pets food could align with your beliefs on feeding dogs raw, natural diets.

Our Purpose

We’re on a mission, and it’s a big one. We want to end factory farming. Making ethical pet food and treats sounds like a strange way to achieve this, but it actually makes sense. Our pets are the second largest consumers of intensively farmed animals on the planet. This equates to literally billions of kilos of meat, most of which are the bi-products of intensively farmed animals.

Imagine if this produce came instead from animals that are raised in a free-range (for the whole of life) system that supports their natural environment.

The impact would be massive enough to change the world.

At Frontier Pets, we offer premium-quality pet food and treats that are made from 100% free-range meat and offal, free-range eggs, and organic fruit and vegetables. Our ingredients are sourced exclusively from Australian farmers who practice sustainable agriculture. Our goal is to help change the world, one nutritious bowl of pet food at a time. That's why our motto is "feed good, do good".

We have developed our food in collaboration with a leading vet and animal nutritionist to ensure that we deliver unparalleled nutrition for your cat or dog. We make a bold claim that our freeze-dried food is the best pet food on the planet, but we stand by it. Our commitment to delivering the highest-quality nutrition for your pet is at the heart of everything we do.

Pet's Health

Here's how to turn mealtime into playtime!

Want to make your dog's dinner more exciting? Enrichment toys are the perfect way to do it!

Kong: This classic toy can be stuffed with all sorts of goodies, from peanut butter to Frontier Pets Freeze-Dried Raw food without adding the water, it is perfect for pets to try and get the food out longer for an extra challenge!

Puzzle feeders: These come in all shapes and sizes, challenging your dog to figure out how to get the treats out by adding our food in or scattering them on the puzzle feeder while the food is wet.

Snuffle mats: Hide those dry Frontier Pets pellets within the mat for a fun foraging experience.

Remember, every dog is different, so it's important to find the right enrichment toy for your pets. Start with something easy and gradually increase the difficulty as they get smarter.

Check out our brand ambassador, Dr Katrina Warren's Instagram, she shares a lot of ideas on how to enrich feed your pets.

If you think your pet has arthritis, it's important to get diagnosed with your veterinarian. There are various types of arthritis and other joint issues that can affect their movement and it's important to get them examined by your vets. Maintaining a healthy weight is one of the most important things you can do to reduce the symptoms of arthritis in affected animals and make sure you're not overfeeding them.

To manage symptoms, veterinarians may advise you to maintain your pet's healthy weight and suggest adding supplements such as turmeric. Our food includes turmeric, a supplement sought after by many pet owners to support joint health.

As a vegan, you may wonder if you can feed your pets a vegan diet. The answer varies depending on the type of pet you have. Recent studies suggest that dogs can thrive on a well-planned vegan diet, but it's essential to use nutritionally complete, commercially available vegan dog food from reputable companies. However, opinions on this topic can differ, and some experts recommend caution, suggesting that more research is needed to understand the long-term effects of a vegan diet on pets. It's always best to consult with a veterinarian before making any significant changes to your pet's diet. Cats, on the other hand, are obligate carnivores, and a vegan diet is typically not recommended for them due to their specific nutritional needs.

Our veterinary experts advise against a vegan diet for dogs and cats, as it contradicts the principles of the Biologically Appropriate Raw Food (BARF) diet, which emphasizes raw, unprocessed foods similar to what their wild ancestors would consume.

This general health advice comes from holistic veterinarian Dr. Kathy Cornack. For any specific health concerns about your pet, please consult your veterinarian. Individual animal needs may vary. This is general advice only.

Many veterinarians tend to recommend commercial diets such as Kibbles, particularly those brands linked with veterinary clinics. Your veterinarian might not be knowledgeable about or supportive of a raw food diet. However, if you're considering raw feeding for your dogs and cats, holistic veterinarians are often more informed and supportive of this approach. It could be beneficial to consult one in your vicinity. If you need assistance finding a holistic vet near you, please feel free to contact us for more information.

Certain dogs are susceptible to bloating post-meal, particularly large breeds and rapid eaters. If your dog is at risk of bloat, consult a veterinarian for management strategies and dietary recommendations.

For a gradual diet transition, consider low-carbohydrate options. Utilise slow feeders, Kongs, and enrichment activities to pace your dog's eating. Remember not to exercise your dog immediately after eating and to wait at least thirty minutes after vigorous walks before feeding. Always follow general veterinary guidance for your pet's health.

This general health advice comes from holistic veterinarian Dr. Kathy Cornack. For any specific health concerns about your pet, please consult your veterinarian. Individual animal needs may vary. This is general advice only.

If your dog or cat is experiencing liver problems, it's crucial to consult with your veterinarian about managing the condition and the appropriate diet. Many veterinarians suggest a low-fat diet for pets with liver disease. Frontier Pets food, which has a high level of healthy fats, may not be suitable for pets with liver conditions.

Many animals might develop cancer during their lifetime. Individuals seek the optimal diets to prevent it and the best foods for their pets after a diagnosis. Consulting a veterinarian for advice and adhering to their recommendations is crucial. It is hypothesised that a low carbohydrate diet could be beneficial, as cancer cells tend to thrive on glucose.

Frontier Pets provides a low-carbohydrate and high-protein diet that supports healthy tissues. You can consult your veterinarian to determine if Frontier Pets' food is appropriate for your pets.

Our Proteins & Producers

A couple of reasons. Pork is one of the most digestible of proteins. It’s very lean, it’s completely safe and it’s really, really yummy.

Pigs are also one of the most Factory Farmed animals on the planet – hundreds of millions of them.

We source our pork from ethical farms. By supporting these farmers we’ll help grow the industry and, with time, eliminate Factory Farms. That’s our dream anyway and we’re sticking with it.

No. They’re not. In fact, 70% of the worlds’ cows are penned up in Factory Farm conditions where they are grain fed. It’s not natural and it’s not fair. Take a drive around a our country-side and play ‘spot the cow’. They’re pretty rare.

And don’t be fooled by the term “Grass Fed”. A lot of cattle in Australia are grass fed for the first part of their life. They finish their final 200 days in a feed lot where they are force fed huge amounts of grain to build up their value. A lot will suffer from broken legs and be crippled because of the sheer weight of their bodies.

Grass fed does NOT mean free-range. Frontier Pets meat comes from animals that have been free-range raised for the whole of their life.

The pork we use comes from Western Plains Pork.  The pigs are outdoor bred in an extremely clever eco-system that significantly supports animal welfare.  I have personally visited the farm on a number of occasions and can attest to the quality of care all the animals receive.  They are definitely ethically farmed – no question.  To find out more about Western Plains Pork, go to the OUR PRODUCERS section on this website.

Eggs are very good for both dogs and cats – they provide valuable proteins and minerals.. Dogs really like to eat eggs and cats get great value from them because they replicate the valuable nutritients that would be contained in a mouses brain.

We use free-range eggs because the alternative… eggs from battery caged chickens… is just not worth thinking about. In fact, by supporting this industry we’ll help end this appalling and inhumane practice.

Yes, pork can be dangerous for pets if not handled correctly. If you want to give your pets homemade raw pork, it's best to consult with your vet first. They can provide specific guidance based on your pet's health and dietary needs.

Historically, pigs harboured an intestinal worm that caused illness in humans and animals. However, this is no longer a concern. Australia has been free of any harmful elements in pigs for many years. Additionally, Frontier Pets employs various safeguards to ensure safety.

Frontier Pets Pork Recipe ensures that our meat is sourced from ethical and sustainable farms, where pigs roam freely and are raised in contested environments. Moreover, our pork products are freeze-dried, leaving no moisture to foster bacterial growth.

Secondly, we undertake microbiology tests on all of our produce quarterly to ensure that it is free of nasties. So you can rest assured that our pork products are safe for your pet. And they love it! It is one of the best proteins for dogs and looks and smells amazing!

This general health advice comes from holistic veterinarian Dr. Kathy Cornack. For any specific health concerns about your pet, please consult your veterinarian. Individual animal needs may vary. This is general advice only.

If you've opened a bag of our pet food and your pet initially ate it but now refuses, it's possible that they need to be transitioned or introduced to their new food slowly.

Frontier Pets may look like dry food, but don't be fooled by our process – it's raw feeding at its finest! Our unique freeze-drying process locks in all the natural goodness of raw ingredients while offering the convenience of dry food. So, even though it might not seem like your typical raw food, Frontier Pets ensures that your pets get the full benefits of a raw diet without any hassle. It's the perfect blend of convenience and nutrition, allowing you to provide your pet with a diet that's as close to nature as possible.

How to transition your pet to raw food

If your pet has been on a diet of dry kibble and/or processed wet food, it’s important to transition gradually to raw feeding as a completely balanced meal.* Raw food is digested differently to processed food and transitioning too quickly to raw feeding can cause stomach upset.

Similarly, if your pet is used to dry kibble or canned food, they may be fussy with raw food at first, so gradually introducing raw food will help their taste buds adjust.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Begin by mixing 20% Frontier Pets Raw Freeze-Dried food with 80% of your pet's regular food.
  2. Feed this 20/80 mix for 2-4 days.
  3. If your pet handles the new food well with no issues, increase the ratio to 40% Frontier Pets and 60% regular food for the next 2-4 days.
  4. Gradually increase the proportion of Frontier Pets by 20% every 2-4 days until you're feeding 100% Frontier Pets as a complete balanced meal.
This is a guide only following general Vet advice for transitioning to raw feeding. However, every pet is unique, and they may transition at a different pace. If you have any concerns, contact us or consult your Vet or Animal Health Specialist. Our team is here to help resolve any issues and ensure your pet has a fresh, enjoyable meal.
